Taconic Triples Worldwide Capacity.
-- Founder of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) coating process increases
capacity in its US and European manufacturing operations while announcing
plans for Far East Manufacturing.
Today, in Boston, Massachusetts, Taconic of Petersburgh, New York
announced a four-stage plan to increase capacity around the globe that will
triple worldwide high performance laminate manufacturing. In 1999, Taconic
implemented the first stage of its capacity expansion through process flow
improvements and personnel additions at its US and European manufacturing
operations. Earlier this year, Taconic completed the second stage of its
capacity expansion through the addition of peripheral manufacturing
equipment and upgrading existing equipment. Taconic will realize the benefits
of its third stage of capacity expansion in the second-half of 2000, through
the addition of an additional laminate Press as well as an automated
paneling operation and increased clean room facilities at its US operation.
Taconic has also purchased land and applied for permits in the Chonan
Complex Specialized Industrial Complex located in Chonan, South Korea,
near Seoul, as the fourth stage of its capacity expansion plan. By the end of
2001, the company plans to supply PTFE Laminates from this facility. These
expansions will triple Taconic's worldwide capacity.
Taconic Advanced Dielectric President, Berry Beumer commented, "These
capacity expansions will put Taconic well ahead of the demand curve by the
end of this year's third quarter. Furthermore, our Far East manufacturing
facility investment will act to serve this increasing local market while opening
additional capacity to further serve our US and European markets. This model
is similar to Taconic's existing approach to the European marketplace, where
we were the first to establish local manufacture of PTFE laminates in that
region."
Taconic, a manufacturer of PTFE coated fiberglass since 1961, employs over
400 people worldwide and is a multinational manufacturer and marketer of
engineered products for demanding specialty applications. Taconic products
serve the Wireless Communication, Aerospace, Automotive, Chemical, Food,
Medical and Textile Industries, encapsulating a broad spectrum of available
substrate materials with PTFE, fluoropolymer based and/or elastomer
materials.
