Taconic and Isola Announce Co-Manufacturing Agreement in Low Loss Materials

Taconic Advanced Dielectric Division, the world's leading manufacturer of fluoropolymer laminates, today announced the formation of an industry alliance with Isola AG, the world's leader in base materials for electronic interconnect. Together, the companies will develop and produce substrate materials for high-speed, digital printed circuitry applications.

The alliance between Isola and Taconic will leverage Taconic's product development core competency in the very high frequency microwave domain and Isola's strengths in PCB fabricator technical support and worldwide manufacturing to develop and produce superior substrate materials for high-speed digital printed circuitry applications.

Unlike the enhanced epoxy materials introduced to the marketplace over the past few years, fluoropolymer substrates offer designers a technology platform to deliver backplane and daughter card solutions at 5 Gbps and beyond: a platform for the next decade, not just a single design cycle.

"With the growing demand for circuitry that operates at higher speeds and with increased signal performance, the opportunities for the material suppliers to design, develop and produce these materials is moving quickly. Isola and Taconic are joining forces to bring these types of materials to the market faster", said Denny Ford, President, Isola Laminate Systems Corp.

"This agreement allows both companies to rapidly scale manufacturing and fabricator support for new materials including, TacPreg™, Taconic's patent pending solution for high-speed digital applications and Isola's IS630 low loss laminate material based on the same technology platform", commented Jim O'Keefe, Taconic Co-CEO. "This is a breakthrough in that for the first time fluoropolymer based products will enable the manufacture of cost effective, high-layer count printed circuit boards using existing fabrication equipment and conventional PCB processes", he added.

"Capitalizing on Isola and Taconic's unique manufacturing structure will provide fabricators and OEMs a global supply chain for their newest circuitry designs and production for the growing high-speed market. We're anticipating volume production during the third quarter of this year", Ford remarked.

Headquartered in Düren Germany, Isola AG is the world's leading supplier of base materials for printed circuit boards. Isola has twelve facilities in Europe, the United States, and the Asia Pacific region; sales and distribution worldwide; and employs approximately 3,000 people.
